Vat 69 is a well-known and well-liked blended whisky with a long history. William Sanderson, a liquor manufacturer from Leith, Scotland, invented it in 1882. Sanderson made 100 different vattings of whisky to create the perfect blend and hired a panel of expert whisky tasters to select the best one. They selected the 69th vatting, hence the name Vat 69. This smooth, balanced spirit is a perennial favorite among blend drinkers, made up of forty different malt and grain whiskies.
